Grease nipple fittings are permanently installed by a thread or straight push-fit arrangement ensuring that a grease gun connection can be made to the exposed nipple. When the grease gun is attached to a grease fitting, the pressure applied will create an opening by forcing a captive ball bearing backwards against its spring, creating an internal opening in the unit. This mechanism allows lubricant to pass through a channel and to be forced into the voids of the bearing. The ball prevents the lubricant from escaping backwards or dirt form entering the fitting.
