A type of spring shaped like a washer, disc springs will flatten out as pressure is applied and are commonly used to produce exceptionally high loads in small areas.

As the disc spring will exert a uniform pressure that remains constant, they are an ideal solution in situations where tension losses due to thermal expansion/contraction or wear of parts occur. They are often used to solve vibration, thermal expansion, relaxation and bolt creep problems.
